What is 'Mameloshn'?
'Mameloshn' is a Yiddish word which literally translates to 'mother tongue'. For a thousand years, Yiddish has served as the mameloshn for Ashkenazi Jewry. How has a language thrived over the centuries without a land? Simple. The travelling Jewish language has not just developed as a language, but as a culture. Yiddish has become a way for Jews to celebrate and express their heritage and culture. Contrary to popular belief, Yiddish language and culture continues to grow around the world today.
'Mameloshn' is all about sharing different ideas and resources to help people to learn Yiddish and teach the values and practises which underpin Ashkenazi culture. You can expect to see crafts projects for yom-toyvim, Yiddish resources for kids, ideas for parents on how to include Yiddish at home and reviews on the latest Yiddish products gracing the market.
A note before you begin to explore... It can be very difficult to find Yiddish resources (trust me, I know), so I am more than happy for anyone to use these. However, I do ask that you do list 'Dvora Zylberman' as creator when using resources I have created and that you do not reproduce for sale.
I hope you'll enjoy exploring this page as much as I enjoy making it.
Mit vareme grusn,
Dvora Zylberman
